About Galyen Pottery

Ron Galyen taught fifth grade for 6 years and Art in grades K - 12 for 30 years in the Franklin County Schools in Indiana.  He has studied pottery under Georgia Parker at Oakland City College; Dr. Karl Martz at Indiana University; and Steve Davis-Rosebaum, and Jed Dowlin visiting instructors at Miami University.

From 1972 - 1986 Ron worked weekends and summers as a potter at Metawood Pottery in Metamora, Indiana.

Since that time he has operated “Galyen Pottery” as a part time home workshop business, demonstrating and selling at various historical / heritage type festivals.

With the assistance of his wife Diana, keeping an attractive display of his wares and making sales at these festivals, Ron works at his antique kickwheel and

demonstrates for the visitors.
Of these, probably the most gruelling, yet the most fun is the Indiana State Fair where we are the Possum Holler Potter at the Pioneer Village.

Jeremiah 18:2-6

2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
